Aims

To enable students to produce an extended piece of academic writing focussing on a healthcare topic that is of interest to them.

Learning Outcomes

  • (LO1) Translate an area of healthcare interest into a practice-based question
  • (LO2) Construct an effective search strategy
  • (LO3) Critically appraise literature relevant to the practice-based question;
  • (LO4) Synthesize the best evidence to address the healthcare issue;
  • (LO5) Provide a critique of evidence, specific to a particular topic in the context of research design and methodology;
  • (LO6) Discuss alternative methodological approaches to healthcare inquiry.
    • (S1) Research management developing a research strategy, project planning and delivery, risk management, formulating questions, selecting literature, using primary/secondary/diverse sources, collecting & using data, applying research methods, applying ethics
    • (S2) Communication, listening and questioning respecting others, contributing to discussions, communicating in a foreign language, influencing, presentations
