Aims
- To develop a systematic understanding of the key aspects of critical care nursing using best available evidence and close observations of local and national guidelines
- To critically explore the diverse nature of critical illness to inform the practice of caring for the individual and their family in a critical care environment across a range of service users.
Learning Outcomes
- (LO1) Critically discuss the key factors that underpin the delivery of competent nursing care for the seriously ill patient through effective assessment and planning;
- (LO2) Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the multidisciplinary team and the importance of collaborative decision making in critical care;
- (LO3) Provide an evidence-based rationale for the provision of care across a range of different critical care settings, caring for a diverse population of service users of all ages;
- (LO4) Utilize the principles of infection control, pharmacology and pathophysiology to ensure effective and appropriate care;
- (LO5) Evaluate contemporary policy and ethical and legal principles that influence current practice in critical care delivery;
- (LO6) Understand the importance of utilizing a wide range of communication and therapeutic skills for critically ill patients and their families.
