Aims

  • To provide students of the health care professions with a knowledge and understanding of physiology and basic physiological systems such as respiration and circulation.
  • The knowledge gained should be relevant and appropriate to their professional requirements, and should provide a framework for further understanding of how the human body functions.

Learning Outcomes

  • (LO1) Describe the roles performed by the body fluids, the respiratory system, the autonomic nervous system, the muscles and the cardiovascular system in normal body function and in disease conditions which are relevant to the healthcare professions.
  • (LO2) Define the homeostatic mechanisms of the body and explain how tissue function can be altered by hormones.
